From TikTok to Pinterest Fame: The Story of Our Viral Graduation Image

When my niece graduated this past year, she sent me a TikTok video with the cutest cake inspiration: Snoopy and Woodstock in graduation caps, relaxing by a fluffy cloud. She knew it would be right up my alley — playful, nostalgic, and absolutely perfect for her special day. I agreed immediately and set out to bring the idea to life.

Recreating the Snoopy & Woodstock Graduation Scene

Unfortunately, it turned out that the image in the TikTok wasn’t downloadable or available for purchase - so we illustrated our own version of the Snoopy and Woodstock grad image. I even did a couple of cloud variations and shared them on our Pinterest Page.

To our surprise, these images started gaining traction quickly — as of this post, one image has 40,000 views and the other has 20,000 views, with hundeds of people pinning, saving, and using them in their own celebration ideas!

While the cake itself was a joy to create, it was the digital topper that really took off. I love that other bakers and party planners can use these pictures to create their own graduation memories.

These are the two images below, can you tell the difference between then? Which do you like best, left or right? Find the downloadable versions by clicking on the images directly.

From Buttercream Blues to a Clean Canvas

Now this was the biggest challenge… from the original pictures my niece shared, I thought the cake was a light yellow, but once I iced it with buttercream, it felt it looked a bit too yellow. That's when I realized that the cakes in the pictures were actually white! It was just the butter that had made the cake look a little yellow in the pictures!

So, I had to do the unthinkable: I scraped off the entire outer layer of buttercream and started over!

With a fresh batch of buttercream and a lot of patience, I recreated the cake in white. The white really gave the cake a nice soft, clean, and cloud-like look — exactly what I was going for!

At the end of the day, the cake came together beautifully. I also made a heart and round cake in the same theme to make sure there was enough cake. I was so happy with the outcome.
